A very special patchwork quilt

By this time of year, you’ve been with those you teach long enough to know that each of them is unique. Think about them as a patchwork quilt where no two squares are the same.
- You have children who come in, sit quietly, and follow every direction.
- You have the slowpokes who take forever to get settled, find the right page, and are the last ones finished.
- And every catechist has the special ones who forget their books, drop everything they touch, and never seem to be at the right place at the right time.
All of them are in God’s patchwork quilt.
And for all of you who are God’s catechists, we offer this special issue on Lent with a variety of approaches to the season. Gwen Costello shares a potpourri of thoughts and prayers just for you. Take time to savor them and renew yourself during this great liturgical season. Gwen offers just the right inspirational prayers and reflections to offer you a bit of peace and ways to grow on your journey as a catechist this Lent.
Lent is a special time to reflect on the ways we respond to each individual God puts in front of us. It’s a time to reflect on our own humanness and the imperfections all of us have. It’s a time of forgiveness. God loves each of us, and we are called to do the same for one another.
This Lent reflect on the ways you respond to those you teach, including the ones who don’t conform to your image of the perfect little child. Choose one way you can respond better and enjoy the “patchwork quilt” you have helped God create!
Lenten blessings to you and those you teach.
