Aren’t baptismal promises just for Easter and the sacrament of baptism? After reading Susan Abbott’s article on infant baptism, commitment, and catechesis, I hope you will agree with me that the promises made for us at baptism, and that we renew every Easter, do indeed make good resolutions not only this new year but every day of our lives.

What will our year be like if we resolve to “reject Satan, all his works, his empty promises, reject the glamour of evil, and refuse to be mastered by sin”? We will be living witnesses of our faith and living our baptismal promises.

Our issue this month is filled with articles that focus on the sacraments. Steven Ellair discusses how to refresh ourselves so that we can enliven our sacramental prep programs. Michael John equates the grace we receive from the sacraments with a beautiful sunset. He shares a hands-on project that will help children remember the connection.

There’s more to discover about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, reconciliation, Scripture and the Baptism of the Lord, liturgy, and the importance of taking “me time” in your ministry. These are only some of the treasures you will find helpful in this special sacrament issue.

We hope that you will enjoy all of them. And may you grow in awareness of the power, the love, and the grace that our sacraments can and do give us every day of our lives.

I enjoy hearing from all of you who take time to share what you are doing in catechesis or tell me what you have found helpful in our magazine. If you have a sacrament story or idea, I’d like to hear from you. Please email me at rcoffey@rtjscreativecatechist.com.

Blessings on your new year and your resolutions,
